The ExpressLane™ PEX8717-CA80BCG is a 16-channel, 10-port PCIe Gen3 switching device developed using the 40nm process node.The PEX8717-CA80BCG provides PCI Express switching functionality, enabling users to create up to 9 downstream ports of varying widths, including native x2. Current processor southbridges offer x1 or x4 PCIe lanes, where the x1 lanes typically do not provide enough bandwidth and the large size of the x4 lanes can waste valuable PCIe lanes.The introduction of the PLX native PCIe x2 interface provides optimal or matching bandwidth for new SATA, USB and SSD endpoints. With backwards compatibility, when designing with PCIe Gen3 switches in mixed (Gen1, Gen2, and Gen3) systems, designers can make their designs fully Gen3-enabled as they migrate to the next generation of endpoints.The PEX8717-CA80BCG is ideally suited for fan-out, aggregation, and point-to-point traffic patterns.
