TI TPS56C230 12A synchronous buck converter features low standby current and requires few external components, making it useful in a variety of applications. D-CAP3 control is used, which requires only internal compensation for fast transient response and excellent line and load regulation. The converter has a dedicated circuit that supports low Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) output capacitors such as dedicated polymer capacitors and ultra-low ESR ceramic capacitors.

The TPS56C230 12A synchronous buck converter features a MODE pin that can be used to set Eco-mode or FCCM mode for light load operation. Eco-mode mode supports high efficiency during light load operation, and FCCM operation mode supports low output ripple at light load. Internal and external soft-start time options are supported. The device has an internal fixed soft-start time of 1.2ms, but if the application requires a longer soft-start time, an external SS pin can be used, which can be achieved by connecting an external capacitor. Integrated power good status indicator and output discharge function. It has comprehensive protection features including OVP, UVP, OCP, OTP and UVLO.

The TPS56C230 is available in a 20-lead 3.0mm × 3.0mm HotRod package and is rated for a junction temperature range of –40°C to +125°C.
