The F1358NBGI8 is a highly linear complex IF digital pre-distortion (DPD) demodulator with a built-in digital step attenuator (DSA) and single-pole, double-throw switch (SP2T). It receives the signal from the power amplifier output so that the baseband I&Q data can be pre-distorted before it is sent to the Tx DAC to counteract the distortion inherent in the downstream power amplifier. The signal coupled from the power amplifier is adjusted to a lower level by the DSA and then sub-sampled at an IF frequency of ~200 MHz, which requires a highly linear demodulator to downmix from the transmit frequency to the quadrature IF. By sampling IF_I and IF_Q independently and then digitally combining these signals, the sampling rate can effectively be doubled. Any distortion in this path degrades the performance of the DPD algorithm. By using an ultralinear demodulator with integrated DSA, such as the IDT F1320/F1370, the ACLR and/or power consumption of the entire Tx system can be significantly improved.
