The R7F702301BFABG-C MCU is the first in Renesas Electronics' cross-domain MCU product family, a new generation of in-vehicle control devices designed to meet the growing demand for integrating multiple applications into a single chip to enable a unified electronic control unit (ECU) for the evolving electrical/electronic architecture (E/E architecture). Leveraging 28 nanometer (nm) process technology, the 32-bit RH850/U2A MCUs are based on key features of Renesas Electronics' RH850/Px series for chassis control and RH850/Fx series for body control, further enhancing performance.

The new generation of in-vehicle control MCUs features up to four 400 megahertz (MHz) CPU cores in a dual-core lockstep architecture. Each CPU core incorporates hardware-based virtualisation assistance, allowing multiple software systems meeting different ISO26262 functional safety levels to run independently and without interference in high-performance mode. In addition, the virtualisation footprint can be reduced to guarantee real-time execution. This enables users to integrate multiple ECU functions into a single ECU while maintaining functional safety, information security, and real-time operational requirements.
