NXP Semiconductors has recently announced the launch of EdgeLock SE051H, a security chip designed specifically for Matter.

NXP Semiconductors recently announced EdgeLock SE051H, a security chip designed specifically for Matter, a single-chip solution with NFC integration designed to simplify secure on-board authentication of Matter devices and bring a new Smart home user experience - automation recommendations, installation videos and more at the touch of an NFC-enabled phone.

The EdgeLock SE051H is optimised to support these requirements, including the algorithms and encryption features required by Matter, allowing device manufacturers to easily integrate the necessary security protection into the end device.


The EdgeLock SE051H is certified to the common standard EAL 6+ and supports the cryptographic operations required for Matter certified smart devices. This includes Matter device authentication and certificate-based authentication using ECC cryptography and the NIST P-256 curve, as well as the SPAKE2+ algorithm for cryptographic authentication key exchange. To protect the Matter protocol, the chip is also equipped with key security features such as ECDSA, ECDH and true random number generators. In addition, the EdgeLock SE051H has an integrated NFC interface and a Class 4 tagging function.


As a security requirement for Matter, the device verification certificate can be used to confirm device authenticity, prove trustworthiness and establish an empirically signed connection to the larger Matter network.
