On March 6, Quectel recently launched the RG650E series and RG650V series, the next generation of 3GPP Release 17 compliant 5G NR modules. Compared to the previous generation of 5G products, these 5G R17 modules offer better data rates, network capacity, power consumption, latency and ultra-reliability, and can easily meet the higher requirements for wireless communication capabilities in fast-growing vertical markets such as 5G fixed wireless access (FWA), enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) and industrial automation.

The RG650E and RG650V series are based on Qualcomm Snapdragon X75 and X72 5G modems and RF systems respectively, and support both 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) and Standalone (SA) modes, with the RG650E supporting up to 300MHz bandwidth and the RG650V supporting up to 200MHz bandwidth in the Sub-6GHz spectrum.

In terms of hardware configuration, the RG650E and RG650V have an integrated quad-core A55 processor and support 5G downlink carrier aggregation, enabling a significant increase in 5G communication rates.

In addition, the RG650x modules are available with a SoC solution that supports the latest Wi-Fi 7 technology, which greatly improves the transmission rate of customer applications, reduces latency and increases overall network capacity. The module series also supports OpenWRT for network routing functions and supports a wider range of upper layer eco-applications.

Supported by RG650x-related features, the RG650x will bring a more stable and smooth 5G network experience to a range of industrial, enterprise and home applications with very high network speed requirements through a communication performance comparable to that of optical fibre. Examples include: FWA devices, including CPE, home gateways, enterprise gateways, industrial routers, mobile hotspots, etc.; eMBB devices, including live HD video, AR/VR devices, drones, etc.; and industrial automation applications, including automated guided vehicles (AGVs), remote control and robotics.

The RG650x series supports the Qualcomm Positioning Suite and 9th generation Qualcomm GNSS hardware (which supports GPS, BeiDou, Galileo, GLONASS, NavIC and QZSS simultaneously), greatly simplifying product design while providing faster, more accurate and more reliable positioning services in a variety of usage environments.

To further facilitate customer development, the modules integrate a number of industry standard interfaces such as USXGMII, PCIe, USB 2.0/ 3.0/ 3.1, PCM and support VoLTE and VoNR (5G ultra HD audio/video calls).
