1 Description

The TPS56C230 is a high-efficiency synchronous buck converter with integrated FETs. System designers can use this device in a variety of applications because it consumes low standby current and requires few external components. The TPS56C230 uses D-CAP3 control to provide fast transient response and excellent line and load regulation with internal compensation. It also features a proprietary circuit that enables the device to support low equivalent series resistance (ESR) output capacitors such as specialty polymers and ultra-low ESR ceramic capacitors.

The MODE pin of the TPS56C230 can be used to set Eco mode or FCCM mode for light load operation. Eco mode maintains high efficiency during light load operation, while FCCM mode maintains small output ripple during light load operation. The device supports internal and external soft-start time options. The internal fixed soft-start time is 1.2 ms, but if the application requires a longer soft-start time, it can be achieved by connecting an external capacitor using the external SS pin. The TPS56C230 integrates a power good indicator and provides an output discharge function. It provides complete protection including OVP, UVP, OCP, OTP and UVLO.

The device is available in a 20-lead 3.0-mm x 3.0-mm HotRod package and is specified over a junction temperature range of –40°C to 125°C.
