Laptops powered by Arm chips will have a 25 percent market share within five years, according to the latest data from research firm Counterpoint Research.

February 10 - Laptops powered by Arm chips will have a 25 percent market share within five years, according to the latest data from research firm Counterpoint Research.


According to Counterpoint Research, the global PC market will see a 15 percent year-over-year decline in shipments in 2022 and is expected to see another high single-digit decline in 2023.


While total notebook shipments will continue to decline, demand for Arm-based notebooks is expected to remain strong.

Counterpoint Research predicts that across all PC sub-sectors, laptops with Arm chips are expected to show relatively resilient demand in the coming quarters, thanks to the success of Apple's MacBook range, increased ecosystem support and the disappearance of the performance gap with x86 products.


Apple is reportedly currently the largest buyer of Arm chips for laptops, accounting for 90% of all laptops with Arm chips last year.


The market share of Arm-equipped laptops will be 13% in 2022 and is expected to grow to 25% by 2027. Intel dominates the notebook market with nearly 70% share in 2022 and is expected to lose 10% of its market share to ARM by 2027.
