January 4, according to Taiwan's Business Times, TSMC 3nm process technology has entered mass production, according to semiconductor experts, TSMC 3nm yield can reach up to 80%, the foreign media cited sources revealed that Qualcomm's next generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be purchased from Samsung and TSMC, while TSMC accounts for most of the chipset, probably because of the yield gap between the two.

Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is being supplied exclusively by TSMC, although sources quoted by the media in November last year said that Qualcomm intended to give Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 orders to Samsung due to doubts over TSMC's 3nm volume production, which at the time delayed the 3nm production schedule.


It is understood that TSMC 3nm is now well into volume production. Speaking at the 3nm mass production and expansion ceremony last week, TSMC Chairman Deyin Liu revealed that 3nm process yields are now comparable to 5nm mass production at the same time. Semiconductor experts have conservatively estimated that the 3nm yield rate will be around 60% to 70%, while other industry analysts estimate it to be 75% to 80%.


As for Samsung's 3nm process, the Taiwanese media pointed out that news had previously spread that Samsung had not only encountered a bottleneck in the mass production of 4nm process, but also the yield rate of 3nm GAA process was only about 10% to 20%.
