December 7, according to the Shanxi Provincial Communications Administration, recently, all 12,317 administrative villages in Shanxi were "lit up" with 5G networks, with an average download rate of over 300Mbps, completing the "lighting up" task of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's precise monitoring of rural 5G network coverage one month ahead of schedule. At present, 67,000 5G base stations have been built in Shanxi province.

In August this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) launched a nationwide campaign to accurately monitor 5G network coverage in rural areas. The Shanxi Provincial Communications Administration co-ordinated the work, made thorough preparations, and organised telecoms operators to carry out the "100-day campaign to accurately monitor 5G network coverage in administrative villages", holding an industry-wide teleconference around the goal of "lighting up" the 5G network in administrative villages across the province, setting up a task force, establishing a work scheduling mechanism, and organising weekly work scheduling meetings. Overcoming many difficulties, telecoms operating companies carried out on-site testing and optimisation of all 5G base stations in administrative villages, and submitted information on 5G base stations to the management platform of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. By October, 100% of the province's 12,722 townships had been connected to 5G networks, with 12,317 administrative villages covered by 5G networks and 12.5 million 5G users in the province.

The 5G "light up" means that after the 5G base stations in rural areas are completed, the information about the base stations will be reported to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's universal service management support platform through the "5G Village" app, so that the 5G network coverage in rural areas can be grasped in a timely and accurate manner.

IT Home has learned that according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, by the end of October, the total number of 5G base stations reached 2.25 million, a net increase of 825,000 over the end of the previous year, accounting for 20.9% of the total number of mobile base stations and an increase of 6.6 percentage points over the end of the previous year. 5G mobile phone users reached 524 million, a net increase of 169 million over the end of the previous year, accounting for 31.1% of mobile phone users.
