Samsung expands provision of 5G communications equipment to Japanese operators

Samsung has announced that it will expand its supply of 5G telecoms equipment to NTT DoCoMo, Japans leading telecoms operator.

1 December - Samsung has announced that it will expand its supply of 5G telecoms equipment to Japan's leading telecoms operator NTT DoCoMo. The South Korean company will supply 5G base stations to support all major frequency bands in which the network operator offers 5G services.

The two companies signed the contract in March 2021 and have now expanded the agreement. With Japan's high population density and NTT DoCoMo having over 84 million subscribers across the country, the stability of the network communications equipment used will be critical. As NTT DoCoMo has renewed the contract, it shows that Samsung Networks' products are proving to be reliable even in densely populated areas.


As part of the contract renewal, Samsung Networks is said to be offering its new ultra-light, compact 5G radio unit, supporting both the 28GHz UHF band (mmWave) and the sub-6GHz 5G band. Weighing just 4.5kg, it can be easily installed in urban and densely populated areas.


The key to the mobile communications equipment market is to build a long-term trusting relationship between operators and suppliers and to jointly invest in next-generation technologies," said the General Manager of Samsung Electronics' network business in Japan. We will work together to advance NTT DoCoMo's 5G network by providing excellent 5G products based on our technological prowess."
