November 16 - Under the guidance of the IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group, ZTE Corporation completed the testing and verification of outdoor UAV, vehicle and pedestrian sensing, as well as the testing and verification of breathing sensing in indoor scenarios, using a 4.9GHz low-frequency 5G commercial base station. The verification results show that the farthest sensing distance of outdoor low-altitude UAVs exceeds 1400m in certain environments, and that multiple targets of UAVs, vehicles and pedestrians can be sensed at the same time, preliminarily verifying the feasibility of low-frequency sensing in low-altitude security and traffic safety management applications. Indoor scenes were tested for both line-of-sight and non-line-of-sight respiratory sensing, and the respiratory monitoring capability in line-of-sight scenes is comparable to that of commercial respiratory monitoring instruments, which can facilitate health management and other sensing applications.
As one of the key innovation directions of 5G-Advanced, communication-aware fusion technology is designed to enable sensing based on the existing communication system, extending the application capabilities beyond data transmission by the communication system. Through the communication system-based perception, on the one hand, it can provide non-terminal target detection capability in the environment, and on the other hand, it can use the advantages of communication network scale deployment to fuse existing perception technology to enhance its perception range and accuracy.
ZTE is committed to developing and validating 5G sensing technologies in different frequency bands, such as millimeter wave and Sub6G, for scenarios such as smart low-altitude, smart transportation and smart life. The test, based on low-frequency 5G commercial base stations, enabled trajectory sensing of drones, vehicles and pedestrians, and respiratory health monitoring and sensing, verifying the usability of 5G sensing technology for operational applications in various fields.
