The ADuM7703 ADC has an integrated low dropout (LDO) regulator that provides high isolation between the analog input, the current sense resistor or shunt, and the digital output.

Description:

The ADUM7703-8BRIZ 16-bit isolated sigma-δ analog-to-digital converter (ADC) is designed to convert an analog input signal into a high-speed one-bit data stream. The ADuM7703 ADC features an integrated Low voltage difference (LDO) regulator that provides high isolation between analog inputs, current detection resistors or shunt and digital outputs. The output signal is then processed by a digital filter to provide n-bit words. The ADC device is powered by a 4.5V to 20V supply (VDD1) and can accept a pseudo-differential input signal of ±250mV (±320mV full scale). The pseudo-differential input is suitable for shunt voltage monitoring in high voltage applications where electrical isolation is required.


The ADuM7703's analog input is continuously sampled by a high-performance analog modulator and converted into a 1-bit digital output stream with data rates up to 21MHz. The original information can be reconstructed with an appropriate sinc3 digital filter to achieve a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 86dB at 78.1kSPS with a 256 extraction rate and a 20MHz master clock. The serial input and output run with a 5V or 3.3V power supply (VDD2).


Serial interface adopts digital isolation. High-speed complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology, combined with monolithic transformer technology, enables on-chip isolation, providing better performance characteristics than alternatives such as optocoupler devices.
