[Munich, Germany, 27 November 2024] Infineon Technologies AG has introduced the new MOTIX™ TLE9189 gate driver IC for safety-critical applications with 12 V brushless DC (BLDC) motors.With this three-phase gate driver IC, Infineon is meeting the growing demand for motor control ICs for in-line solutions. The driver IC is compliant with AEC Q100 class 0 and ISO 26262 (ASIL D) and is ideally suited for drive-by-wire and steer-by-wire systems, which in the future will do away with traditional mechanical connections.

MOTIX™ TLE9189QVW in VQFN-48 package


The TLE9189 is the fourth generation of automotive-grade, three-phase smart gate driver ICs from Infineon,’ said Andreas Doll, senior vice president and general manager of the Intelligent Power product line at Infineon Technologies, ’The TLE9189 brings enhanced functionality and unique features to smart motor control, meeting the growing customer demand for in-line control solutions. This new device brings a high degree of reliability to motor control designs, which is especially important for safety-critical line control solutions.’


The MOTIX™ TLE9189 gate driver IC will be available in both TQFP-48 (9 x 9 mm²) and VQFN-48 (7 x 7 mm²) packages. Customers can select the appropriate package based on application requirements. The device has a supply voltage range of 4.2 V to 36 V and is optimised for 12 V automotive battery systems. It uses a conventional motor control concept, including PWM inputs and an integrated current-sense amplifier for precise current detection. Compared to other semiconductor devices, the TLE9189 offers a high degree of flexibility and granularity in gate sequencing. In addition, it integrates a variety of monitoring and diagnostic functions to monitor devices, inverters, microcontrollers and MCU interfaces. The product also features unique adaptive MOSFET control, a patented Infineon technology that helps to improve EMC performance, achieve target switching times and reduce power losses.


Infineon provides customers with comprehensive support materials during the design introduction process, including various technical documents such as application notes. Simulation models, configuration tools and complex device drivers are also available upon request.
