Strategy Analytics RF & Wireless Components (RFWC) recently released a service report, Wi-Fi Forecast 2022-2027: New Standards and Applications, which predicts that Wi-Fi system shipments will grow at a rate of 7.5% per year as Wi-Fi becomes more prevalent in smart homes, home entertainment and other applications . 


The study reports that smart home and home entertainment devices will account for 70% of the growth in Wi-Fi systems between now and 2027. As Wi-Fi breaks out of its long history of being PC-centric and enters new markets, Wi-Fi will continue to re-emerge with a new look to benefit users.

The new power-saving features of Wi-Fi 6 will drive greater adoption of mesh networking protocols such as Z-Wave and ZigBee in home automation," said Strategy Analytics RF & Wireless Component Services Director and report author. "We also expect to see increasing adoption of Wi-Fi in industrial IoT applications, such as Using HaLow for outdoor and longer range use cases. The wearables and automotive markets will also rank quite high in terms of percentage growth in Wi-Fi device shipments." 


The Strategy Analytics vice president added: "Growing shipments and the transition to newer Wi-Fi standards and higher initial radio chip prices will combine to drive the Wi-Fi chip market size to more than $20 billion in 2027, growing nearly 9 percent annually in real 2022 dollars. This will benefit Qualcomm, Broadcom, NXP, Infineon, Synaptics, MaxLinear and many other Wi-Fi chip suppliers.
