Nov. 9 (Bloomberg) -- Apple's rumored augmented reality (AR) glasses appear to need more testing and development before their release, with analysts at Haitong International Technology Research saying that Apple's AR glasses are expected to be delayed until 2025-2026 due to design issues encountered.

In an email to MarketWatch, the analysts wrote, "Due to design issues, we now expect the AR glasses to be delayed until 2025-2026." Just five months ago, Pu predicted that Apple's AR glasses could launch as soon as 2024.


The analyst didn't specify what specific design issues Apple's AR glasses are facing, which could involve aesthetics or technical aspects.


It's no secret that Apple is moving into the AR / VR space, and its mixed reality headset is reportedly still on track to launch sometime next year and will compete with Meta's Quest headset. However, when it comes to AR, reports suggest that Apple needs more time to work on the design of its AR goggles.


Embracing augmented reality remains a top priority for Apple, and the CEO has spoken about AR on several occasions, saying it is both "a critical part of Apple's future" and "the next big thing" that will " pervade our entire lives".


Apple reportedly believes that the medium of AR will replace the iPhone within a decade, a rather aggressive view considering there are over a billion active iPhones in the world. But if any company can take a seemingly niche product and make it popular, it's Apple. The quirky design of AirPods, for example, was initially ridiculed, but now the product is seen almost everywhere and generates very healthy revenue for the company.
