Nordic Semiconductor Reinforces Leadership in Ultra-Low-Power Wireless Connectivity for the Internet of Things with Next-Generation Wireless SoCs nRF54L15, nRF54L10 and nRF54L05

November 13 - Nordic Semiconductor, the world leader in low-power wireless connectivity solutions, today introduced the nRF54L family of wireless SoC products, including the previously announced nRF54L15™ and the new nRF54L10™ and nRF54L05™. This advanced product family sets a new industry standard, offering significantly enhanced efficiency, superior processing power and diverse design options to meet the growing range of low-power Bluetooth and IoT applications and customer needs.

All three devices in the new nRF54L family integrate the 2.4 GHz radio and MCU functionality, including CPU, memory and peripherals, into a single, ultra-low-power chip, supporting applications ranging from simple, high-volume products to demanding, advanced designs. Key applications include wearables, smart bands, game controllers, HID devices, as well as medical devices, smart home and industrial IoT products. nRF54L15 is well suited for demanding applications, while nRF54L10 and nRF54L05 are aimed at high-volume applications such as smart labels, electronic shelf tags, asset trackers and other cost-sensitive IoT devices.

Future-proofing Advanced IoT Products

Equipped with a 128 MHz Arm® Cortex®-M33 processor and ultra-low-power 2.4G Hz radio, the nRF54L family of SoCs are designed to support advanced application software and wireless protocol stacks on a single chip, reducing the need for external MCUs or additional memory.

The nRF54L15 has the largest memory capacity in the family with 1.5 MB of non-volatile memory (NVM) and 256 KB of RAM, making it ideal for demanding applications; the mid-range nRF54L10 has 1.0 MB of NVM and 192 KB of RAM; and the nRF54L05 is optimised for less demanding, cost-sensitive applications with 0.5 MB of NVM and 192 KB of RAM. 0.5 MB NVM and 96 KB RAM.

This product family offers up to 35 GPIOs and an ultra-compact 2.4 x 2.2 mm WLCSP package option that is up to 50 per cent smaller than the comparable nRF52840. Nordic offers the nRF54L series in a 6x6 pin-to-pin compatible QFN package family that ensures design flexibility and optimised manufacturing costs.

In addition to extended memory options, the family integrates a low-power RISC-V co-processor to support advanced application requirements without additional external components, reducing BOM costs and enabling compact designs.

Enhanced multi-protocol support

The nRF54L family supports low-power Bluetooth, Bluetooth Mesh, Thread, Matter, Zigbee, Amazon Sidewalk, and 2.4 GHz proprietary protocols, with enhancements such as data rates up to 4 Mbps. The family is future-proof and supports the Bluetooth 6.0 specification, including Bluetooth Channel Sounding.

Next-Generation Wireless SoCs

The nRF54L family takes the market-leading nRF52 family to a whole new level, with lower power consumption and up to double the processing power and triple the processing efficiency. nRF54L is built with deep design expertise, including proprietary intellectual property (IP) such as low leakage RAM and advanced radio technology. The pioneering transition to the 22 nm process node (TSMC 22ULL® technology) not only improves ultra-low power capability and processing efficiency, but also significantly increases the resilience of Nordic's supply chain.

Security is a top design priority and the product family meets important advanced security requirements by integrating features such as TrustZone isolation, tamper sensors and hardened cryptographic accelerators.
