November 12 - ONSEMI announced the Treo platform, an analog and mixed-signal platform built on advanced 65nm node BCD (Bipolar-CMOS-DMOS) process technology. The platform provides a strong foundation for ON Semiconductor's broad range of power and sense solutions, including high-performance and low-power sense, efficient power management and specialized communication devices. With this scalable, single solution, customers can simplify and accelerate product development for existing applications and quickly capitalize on emerging market opportunities.
Today's automotive, industrial and AI data center markets are experiencing increasing demand for power, along with stricter environmental regulations, driving the need for greater energy efficiency in these industries and requiring higher performance and functionality in end-use applications as well. Additionally, low-power devices such as medical wearables are becoming more complex, requiring greater intelligence and energy efficiency to improve personal care and reduce device costs. This requires highly integrated, advanced power and sensing solutions that can deliver greater intelligence while achieving higher energy efficiency across the entire power range.
The Treo platform is uniquely positioned to meet these growing demands with superior performance and functionality, as well as support for industry-leading wide voltage ranges at leading-edge nodes. Products built on the Treo platform deliver significant gains in accuracy, performance and energy efficiency, improving functionality, safety and quality throughout the lifecycle. For example:
In the automotive sector, high-performance ultrasonic sensors can triple their accuracy, meaning they can detect objects closer to the vehicle in park assist applications. With the ability to detect objects closer to the vehicle, park assist systems can help drivers avoid obstacles more efficiently while parking, providing better collision avoidance and improving overall safety.
In healthcare, ultra-low-power analog front ends (AFEs) for continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) can more accurately measure currents as small as nano-amps (nA). This precision is critical to detecting the tiny signals generated by blood glucose sensors and ensuring accurate blood glucose readings. By integrating multiple functions into a single compact chip, the platform is able to halve the space required and extend battery life to weeks. This means the entire CGM device is smaller and more comfortable to wear, while saving healthcare dollars by reducing the number of replacements.
In data center applications, the Treo platform will make ON Semiconductor's intelligent power stages more compact, helping to improve the energy efficiency of the power supplied to GPUs and CPUs. This can reduce cooling requirements and deliver significant energy savings, resulting in lower operating costs, reduced environmental impact and sustainability.
The Treo platform has a modular architecture similar to a system-on-chip (SoC), with an evolving and robust set of IP building blocks that make up the compute, power management, sensing, and communications subsystems. The Treo platform uses a 65-nanometer process node, which provides advanced digital processing capabilities and improved analog IP performance. With these capabilities, the platform delivers native intelligence and computation for flexible configuration and significantly improved performance and accuracy for end applications. In addition, the platform supports an industry-leading wide voltage range of 1-90V and operating temperatures up to 175°C, enabling customers to integrate a range of features from low to high power consumption. These capabilities enhance ON's ability to deliver optimized solutions and customized product portfolios, enabling customers to bring products to market faster than ever before.
ON Semiconductor is now sampling an initial family of products based on the Treo platform, including voltage converters, ultra-low-power AFEs, LDOs, ultrasonic sensors, multiphase controllers and single-pair Ethernet controllers. By 2025, ON will offer a broader portfolio of products that add more system-level value, including: high-performance sensors, DC-DC converters, automotive LED drivers, electrical safety ICs, connectivity products and more.
