Description:

The ADMV4530ACCZ from ADI is a highly integrated upconverter with a in-phase/orthogonal mixer ideal for next generation Ka-band satellite communications.


The integrated low-phase noise, fractional N-division phase-locked loop, and voltage-controlled shaker and internal doubler generate the necessary on-chip local oscillator signal for the I/Q mixer without the need for external frequency synthesis. The VCO uses an internal automatic calibration routine so that the phase-locked loop can select the necessary Settings and lock in about 100 seconds.


The single-ended reference input of the phase-locked loop operates at frequencies up to 500 MHz and employs an internal reference divider and frequency multiplier for greater flexibility. In addition, comparison frequencies of phase frequency detectors can be up to 250 MHz and 160 MHz.


The upconverter contains an I/Q mixer that can operate in both I/Q mode with a bandwidth of 500 MHz and IF mode with a bandwidth of up to 3 GHz, enabling a variety of RF architectures and backward compatibility with legacy systems.


The gain and variable attenuation stage follow the I/Q mixer. This configuration enables a minimum 1dB compression point of 19 dBm, P1dB, eliminating the need for an external gain stage.
