Qualcomm completes lab and existing network 5G technology with multiple vendors

Qualcomm Technologies recently completed technical validation of 5G millimetre-wave independent networking technology projects in the lab and in existing networks with various system network vendors.

Qualcomm Technologies has recently completed technical validation of 5G millimetre-wave independent networking technology projects with a number of system network vendors in the laboratory and in the existing network, according to the IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group of the China Institute of Information and Communications Technology.


The series of tests were conducted using CPE test terminals equipped with Snapdragon X65 5G modems and RF systems, with network vendors such as ZTE, Nokia Bell Shanghai and CITIC Mobile, respectively, to test the FR2 only technology in millimetre wave independent networking (SA) mode.


Using Snapdragon X65 5G devices, Qualcomm completed lab and live network testing of 5G millimetre wave independent networking technology with multiple system network vendors


The tests verified features such as downlink 4X200MHz channel bandwidth, downlink 256QAM, DSUUU, uplink 2X200MHz and mobility. Core performance indicators such as single-user throughput, user-plane and control-plane latency, beam switching and cell switching were also verified simultaneously.


In the interfacing environment with ZTE's system, the peak downlink rate exceeded 7.1Gbps with the DDDSU frame structure and 2.1Gbps with the DSUU frame structure, with a minimum ping test delay of 3.6ms.


According to the report, the millimeter wave independent networking mode FR2 only offers higher rates and lower latency than Sub-6GHz technology, while the technology is not dependent on the Sub-6GHz band, making it more flexible for deployment.
