[October 18] Fingerprint sensing provides accurate and cost-effective biometric performance. Fingerprint sensing is more convenient and easier to use for drivers than other authentication methods such as using a smartphone or entering a password on the car's user interface. As a result, biometric capabilities have become a trend in the automotive industry. To meet this demand, Infineon Technologies AG introduces the new automotive-grade fingerprint sensor ICs CYFP10020A00 and CYFP10020S00, two semiconductor devices that are ideally suited for use with Infineon's TRAVEO™ T2G family of microcontrollers and are compliant with the automotive industry's AEC-Q100 requirements. Both sensors provide robust fingerprint recognition and authentication for in-vehicle personalization and payment authentication such as charging and parking, as well as for authentication and fingerprint recognition applications outside the automotive industry. Infineon and Precise Biometrics have jointly developed the Biomatch algorithm software to provide leading fingerprint recognition and identity verification solutions.
The CYFP10020A00 sensor operates over a temperature range of -40 to +85 °C and the CYFP10020S00 over a temperature range of -40 to +105 °C. Both sensors have precision capacitive circuits that accurately capture the ridge and valley pattern of a user's fingerprint and detect finger touches and lifts away. Users can choose to use them for tracking finger movement or as a small touchpad for scrolling and menu selection. Both devices can be optimized for different types of coatings and bezels. With this flexibility, customers can customize the look and feel of the entire module to better meet design goals. The two sensors are available in an 8.9 x 9.3 mm BGA package with an 8 x 8 mm sensing area and a choice of 1.8 to 5.5 V power supplies. Fingerprint data is encrypted via an on-chip AES hardware block and output to a host MCU (e.g. TRAVEO™ T2G microcontroller) via an SPI interface.
