Apple Q4 net profit up less than 1% Supply of high-end iPhone models will remain constrained
Apple Inc. today (28) released its fiscal fourth quarter 2022 earnings results.
Apple Inc. today (28) released its financial results for the fourth fiscal quarter of 2022. The results show that Apple achieved revenue of US$90.146 billion in the reporting period, up 8.14% year-on-year, and net profit of US$20.721 billion, up 0.82% year-on-year, or less than 1%. Apple expects to see a slowdown in single-quarter annual growth due to exchange rate disruptions in Q4 as of the end of December, and the supply constraint for high-end iPhone 14 models is likely to remain in place for some time.
Apple announced its quarterly results for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2022 (ended September 24), reporting revenue of US$90.146 billion for the single quarter, an 8.1% increase over the same period last year and a record high for the same period.
Apple's revenue is divided into two segments: hardware products and software services. In the fourth quarter of fiscal 2022, hardware products contributed nearly 80% of Apple's revenue.
By product, iPhone sales rose 9.67% year-on-year to US$42.626 billion, accounting for 47.3% of revenue in the quarter, though still below analysts' expectations. Apple CEO Tim Cook said in response to a question from the company that supply constraints on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max from the start could affect revenue performance and that Apple was doing its best to meet customer demand, and that he expected supply constraints to remain in place for some time.
iPad sales declined 13.06 per cent to US$7.174 billion, while Mac sales were the only Apple product to beat analysts' expectations, jumping 25.39 per cent year-on-year to US$11.508 billion. Apple's chief financial officer Luca Maestri said Mac computer revenue would decline compared to the same period last year, mainly due to the relatively high revenue base of a series of MacBook Pro notebook products in the fourth quarter of last year.
Apple released a new notebook computer, the MacBook Air, with a new generation of M2 chips in June, driving Mac computer revenue to US$11.508 billion in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2022, a significant annual increase of 25.4 percent and a record high for the same period.
