In the three years since the commercialization of 5G, 5G applications have been expanding, from 2C-oriented application scenarios to industrial Internet, automotive networking, video surveillance, power, ports, mines and other industries. At the same time, the multiple demands of 5G applications have put forward different requirements on 5G terminal module price, power consumption, and performance, posing new challenges to the 5G capabilities developed by R15 and R16 specifications.

The "5G Application "Sailing" Action Plan (2021-2023)" issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and other ten departments also clearly points out that the development and industrialization of lightweight 5G chipsets and modules should be accelerated to further improve the cost performance of terminal modules, meet the individual needs of industry applications, and enhance the industry's basic support capabilities.

Ericsson has taken the lead in 3GPP to complete the establishment and formulation of Redcap-related standards, completing the middle ground of 5G capabilities, effectively expanding 5G capabilities and application scenarios, and enabling 5G to form a complete technical system with high, medium and low classification capabilities for various 2C and 2B industry application needs.

It is reported that this test follows the requirements of the "5G Enhanced Technology R&D Test NR RedCap Key Technology Test Methodology" compiled by the IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group, and uses Ericsson commercial equipment and the 5G chip platform of Avnet Technology (ASR) to verify the basic capabilities of RedCap UE, residency and access control, RedCap UE identification and random access, basic services, mobility and legacy UE. services, mobility and legacy UE coexistence, as well as peak throughput and user-plane delay. The test results are fully compliant with the 3GPP standard protocol flow, and the performance meets the expected index requirements.

Ericsson will continue to actively promote RedCap in R18, and under the guidance of the IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group, will continue to participate in the RedCap follow-up tests organized by the Promotion Group to jointly promote the industrialization of RedCap technology.
