Melexis, a global microelectronics engineering company, has announced the addition of the MLX92253 to its Hall-effect dual latch product family. This Hall sensor chip offers two completely independent signal channels to minimize jitter and always maintain a 90° phase shift, regardless of magnetic pole distance. This feature allows the electronic control unit (ECU) to accurately calculate speed and direction and easily implement cross-platform transmission. This integrated solution provides a cost-effective choice of DC motors and encoders for a wide range of embedded applications, including automotive, consumer electronics and industrial sectors.
In the field of mobility, the deep integration of accurate directional feedback with linear speed, rotational speed or angular position sensing technology has become the key to ensuring the stable operation and improved safety of many systems. In the field of passenger cars, directional feedback technology is used for the monitoring and control of electric systems, such as window lifters, seat adjustment motors and precise control of electric tailgates. For electric bicycles, direction feedback plays an important role in detecting the cycling step frequency and activating the electric pedal assistance in real time. In addition, in smart home and industrial scenarios, such as the automated operation of smart blinds and ventilation systems, motor feedback also plays an integral role in ensuring the safe operation and precise operation of equipment.
Currently, for stepper and DC motor applications with dual latches, engineers generally face two major challenges: on the one hand, they may need to integrate two separate chips, increasing the design complexity; On the other hand, if you rely on magnetic pole distance sensitive chips, it may lead to highly customized needs and increased costs. With its unique advantages, MLX92253 offers a solution to this challenge. The device has two pre-programmed Hall sensors (Z-axis and X-axis), which not only provide two separate signal tracks, but also a shared common magnetic core design. This innovative design ensures that there is always a 90° phase shift (orthogonal relationship) between the two speed outputs, thus eliminating the dependence on magnetic pole distance. In addition, the MLX92253 features a low magnetic threshold, which opens up more design possibilities for engineers - they can adopt smaller, more cost-effective magnetic components, or increase air gaps to accommodate more relaxed assembly tolerances, effectively reducing assembly challenges.
The MLX92253 delivers fast, accurate feedback with low latency and low jitter, providing a significant increase in reliability over traditional solutions. With a chopper frequency of up to 500kHz and an operating voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V, the device is perfectly suited to the needs of low-power embedded systems. The MLX92253 also has a wide operating temperature range from -40 ° C to 150 ° C, ensuring stable operation in extreme environments. It is worth mentioning that the device provides output status feedback during the startup phase, which allows the two outputs to be converted into inputs through the startup feedback mechanism, capturing and recording the MLX92253's status information before power failure, thus ensuring that no important actions are missed.
