September 7 - Apple is known to have been working on its own modem in recent years, which it hopes will replace Qualcomm's 5G baseband. Ming-Chi Kuo has previously said that Apple's first in-house 5G baseband will be available in products like the iPhone by 2025.


Today, he shared his forecast for Apple's in-house 5G baseband expansion plans over the next few years. He believes that Apple's 5G baseband is poised to start shipping in small quantities next year, but will grow significantly in 2026 and 2027.


He expects Apple's in-house 5G baseband shipments to reach 35-40 million units in 2025, 90-110 million in 2026, and 160-180 million in 2027. This trend will have a significant impact on Qualcomm's 5G chip shipments and patent licence sales.


He expects Apple to use its own 5G chips in only two products in 2025:

- iPhone SE 4 (due in the spring)

- iPhone 17 Air (expected to launch in the autumn)


According to previous leaks, the next-generation iPhone SE 4 will feature an OLED screen, a next-generation A-series chip compatible with Apple Intelligence, and a USB-C interface.
