Toshiba today announced the launch of the "TLX9152M" in-vehicle optical relay for high-voltage automotive battery applications. The new device comes in a SO16L-T package with an output voltage of up to 900 V (minimum). The product recently began to support bulk shipments.
Reducing charging times and increasing range are critical to driving the adoption of electric vehicles, both of which need to be achieved by improving the operating efficiency of battery systems. The battery management system (BMS) enables efficient system operation by monitoring the state of the battery charge and the insulation between the battery and the car body, which is essential for the safe use of high-voltage batteries. In BMS where high voltages need to be handled, the use of electrically isolated optical relays is essential.
The optical relays commonly used in battery systems must have a voltage resistance of approximately twice the system voltage. Therefore, an output voltage of more than 800 V is necessary for 400 V systems. The TLX9152M is suitable for 400 V systems with a 900 V output withstand voltage/supply voltage.
The TLX9152M comes in the SO16L-T package, which is widely used in high-voltage photorelays, including the Toshiba TLX9160T with output voltage withstand up to 1500 V. This package is helpful to realize the universality of circuit board pad design.
