October 13 - Samsung has announced that it is expanding its partnership with Google to make the smart home more interoperable. The initiative will allow Samsung Galaxy phone and tablet users to use Matter-compatible smart home devices on SmartThings and Google Home, giving users more choice in how they control their devices and how they buy them.

According to Samsung, if a user has been using Google Home and has a device connected, and also has a device connected to SmartThings, the user can now import all of their devices into both apps and only need to use one of them. Google recently announced a Google Home update that will bring Matter support - the update will arrive later this year.


With the launch of Matter, we know there will be new expectations when it comes to smart home connectivity," said Google's Vice President of Product Management for Android Developers. We're proud to be working with Samsung Electronics to provide new and existing smart home users with their exploration of what the future of smart homes will look like and the ease of use that comes with it."


The Matter smart home standard is said to make its way into most major smart home products, enabling interoperability across brands.


In October this year, the Connectivity Standards Alliance and its members, which include Apple, Google, Amazon, Samsung and other smart home manufacturers, announced the launch of the Matter 1.0 smart home accessory standard.
