Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX/OTCQX: IFNNY) has launched a new family of PSOC™ Control microcontrollers (MCUS). The range is suitable for next-generation industrial and consumer motor control and power conversion system applications, including home appliances, power tools, renewable energy products, industrial drives, and lighting and computing/communication power supplies. The new Infineon PSOC™ Control family, based on the Arm® Cortex-M33 core, offers onboard capabilities to optimize and accelerate current measurement, waveform generation and real-time performance operations that play a critical role in target system applications.
Steve Tateosian, Senior Vice President, Industrial MCU, Internet of Things, Wireless and Computing, Infineon Technologies, said: "The new Infineon PSOC™ Control MCU demonstrates the company's commitment to high performance and efficiency in a new generation of motor control and power conversion applications. With extensive onboard simulation capabilities, high-performance timers, hardware mathematical acceleration, and a rich ecosystem of design tools, the new semiconductor device family will enable system designers to deliver innovative, energy-efficient devices for high-volume and specialty markets."
Key specifications for the new MCU family include a maximum clock speed of 180 MHz, a high-performance analog-to-digital converter (ADC), high resolution (<100 ps) pulse width modulation (PWM), and an integrated CORDIC accelerator for offloading CPU real-time control tasks. CORDIC can perform true synchronous "idle" sampling of up to 16 analog signals from a single-core ADC up to 25% faster with no sampling jitter. This combination of energy efficiency and performance saves material usage (BOM) at the system level, while deep sleep of less than 10 uA and sleep modes of less than 1 uA save valuable power for low-power and battery-powered applications.
Infineon's PSOC™ Control family supports innovative power electronics designs based on wide band gap (WBG) technologies such as silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN), both to improve performance and further reduce material costs for the entire system.
Availability
The first two MCUS of Infineon's PSOC™ Control family, with CPU clock speeds of 100 MHz and 180 MHz and maximum embedded flash memory of 256 KB, are now available to early bird users and will be available in the first quarter of 2025.
