According to market sources, MediaTek lags behind Qualcomm in the field of automotive electronics, which has received orders from several automakers.

Taiwan Electronic Times, September 27th, market sources revealed that MediaTek lags behind Qualcomm in the field of automotive electronics, which has received orders from a number of automakers. Qualcomm recently announced that it will be working with Mercedes-Benz on its next-generation infotainment system, which will replace the original Nvidia chip with a Snapdragon Cockpit chip.

Before the epidemic, Qualcomm had already focused on the field of automotive electronics. In recent years, it has expanded its product line to include smart cockpits, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and connected vehicles (V2X).


MediaTek launched Autus, an intelligent driving platform, in 2018, and also has solutions related to intelligent cockpits. In 2022, MediaTek officially launched a 5G modem for vehicles, successfully entering the supply chain of Japanese and European car factories. MediaTek hopes to use the 5G modem as an entry point to launch other automotive products. The overall development direction of MediaTek is to build from its own technical foundation to automotive electronics.


Despite this, MediaTek's development progress in the field of automotive electronics is still far behind Qualcomm. According to revenue data, Qualcomm expects annual revenue from the automotive business to reach $1.3 billion in fiscal 2022 and is optimistic that it will exceed $4 billion in 2026. In contrast, MediaTek's automotive chip and ASIC business combined will not exceed NT$30. $1 billion in 2022 ($942.34 million).
