Product Description:

The Texas Instruments LP5811 4-channel RGBW LED driver is a synchronous boost RGBW LED driver with autonomous animation engine control. The device is ideal for battery-powered applications that support input voltage ranges from 0.5V to 5.5V, with ultra-low normal operating current and 0.4mA (typical value) for LED lighting.


The integrated synchronous boost converter maintains excellent efficiency and keeps the LED brightness stable over a wide operating voltage range. The output voltage can be selected for different LED forward voltages from 3V to 5.5V (0.1V step). The boost converter provides power to LED drive loads and other loads in the system. If the boost converter needs to be bypassed, VOUT will be used as the power input to the LED driver module.


Both analog dimming and PWM dimming methods are used to achieve powerful dimming performance. The output current of each LED can be adjusted in 256 steps in the range of 0.1mA to 25.5mA or 0.2mA to 51mA. The 8-bit PWM generator provides smooth and noise-free dimming control for LED brightness.


The autonomous animation engine significantly reduces the real-time load on the controller. Each LED can be configured with relevant registers to achieve vivid and interesting lighting effects. The Texas Instruments LP5811 generates a 6MHz clock signal and synchronizes lighting effects across multiple devices.

• Operating voltage range:

- Input voltage (VIN) range: 0.5V to 5.5V

- The minimum input voltage at startup is 1.8V

- Logic pins are compatible with 1.8V, 3.3V and 5V voltages

• Efficient synchronous boost converter

- Output voltage (VOUT) range: 3V to 5.5V

- 140mΩ (HS)/60mΩ (LS) MOSFETs

- 1.6A Valley switching current limit

- When VIN = 4.2V, VOUT = 5.0V, and IOUT = 300mA, the efficiency is 95%

- VIN > VOUT enters the DMO mode

- Truly disconnects input field outputs during a shutdown

• 4 high precision constant current traps:

- Each current trap is 0.1mA to 51mA

- Inter-device error: Maximum ±5%

- Inter-channel error: Maximum ±5%

- Ultra-low margin voltage: 110mV at 25.5mA (typical value); 210mV at 51mA (typical value)

- PWM phase shift can be configured for each LED

• Ultra-low power consumption:

- Off: When EN is low, ISD = 0.1μA (typical value)

- Standby: ISTB = 26μA (typical) when EN is high and CHIP_EN is 0 (data reserved)

- Effective: When the LED current is 25.5mA, INOR =0.45mA (typical)

• Analog dimming (current gain control)

- Global 1-bit maximum current (MC) : 25.5 mA or 51 mA

- Separate 8 site current (DC) Settings

• PWM dimming frequency up to 24kHz, no noise

- Separate 8-bit PWM dimming resolution

- Linear or exponential dimming curve

• Autonomous animation engine control

• Open/short circuit detection for each LED point

• Integrated ghost cancellation

• 1MHz (Max.) I2C interface

• Operating temperature range: -40°C to 85°C
