LG successfully tests next-generation 6G THz network data transfer, targeting 1TB per second
News on September 15th, yesterday, LG officially announced that it has successfully tested the wireless transmission and reception of 6G terahertz (THz) data in the frequency range of 155 to 175GHz, with an outdoor distance of up to 320 meters.
News on September 15th, yesterday, LG officially announced that it has successfully tested the wireless transmission and reception of 6G terahertz (THz) data in the frequency range of 155 to 175GHz, with an outdoor distance of up to 320 meters.
LG said the milestone, achieved on September 7 at the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI) in Berlin, Germany, represents an important step in the commercialization of 6G THz in indoor and outdoor urban areas, as the reference coverage for urban cell sites is Outdoors about 250 meters. It's also a major leap from last August, when LG demonstrated that it could transmit 6G THz data over a distance of 100 meters outdoors.
6G utilizing ultra-wideband UWB frequencies has a relatively short range and experiences power losses from transmission to reception. To address these issues, LG, Fraunhofer HHI and the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics (IAF) have jointly developed a power amplifier that increases the transmission strength, and a receive LNA that improves the quality of the input signal.
"With the success of our latest demonstration, we are one step closer to achieving 6G speeds of 1TB per second in indoor and outdoor urban areas," said LG CTO and EVP. LG will continue to work with research institutes and industry innovators , further cementing its leadership in 6G technology. We expect 6G to be a major driver of future business and new user experiences.”
According to the data, LG plans to announce the full results of its latest 6G communication test at the 6G Grand Summit held in Seoul on September 23, and introduce an overview of the development of the technology so far.
Discussions on the standardization of 6G networks are expected to start around 2025, with commercialization of the technology scheduled to begin in 2029. 6G will offer faster data transfer speeds, lower latency and higher reliability than 5G wireless networks.
