Overview
When used in combination with an external loop filter and an external reference frequency, the ADF4356 enables a fractional N division or integer N division phase locked loop (PLL) frequency synthesizer. A series of dividers with other frequency outputs can achieve operating frequencies from 53.125 MHz to 6800 MHz.
The ADF4356 has an integrated VCO with a fundamental output frequency range of 3400 MHz to 6800 MHz. In addition, VCO frequencies can be divided 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, or 64, so users can generate RF output frequencies as low as 53.125 MHz. For applications that require isolation, the RF output stage can be muted. The mute function can be controlled either by pins or software.
All on-chip registers are controlled through a simple three-wire interface. The ADF4356 operates with analog and digital power supplies from 3.15 V to 3.45 V, with charge pumps from 4.75 V to 5.25 V and VCO power supplies. In addition, the ADF4356 also has built-in hardware and software power down modes.
