SGMICRO introduces the SGM838 power monitor for AI server buses, an 85V, 16-bit, high-precision power monitor with alarm functionality and an I²C-compatible interface. Beyond 48V AI servers, the device is suitable for applications including enterprise-grade servers, telecommunications equipment, ATE testing, and 48V energy storage systems.

The SGM838 incorporates a 16-bit Σ-Δ ADC, enabling full-scale differential inputs of ±163.84mV or ±40.96mV. With a common-mode input voltage range spanning 0V to 85V, it effortlessly accommodates sensing applications on both high-side and low-side power rails, delivering comprehensive monitoring solutions.

Regarding monitoring capabilities, the SGM838 not only accurately monitors current and voltage but also performs real-time temperature measurement and power calculation, while supporting rapid alarm functionality. Its integrated temperature sensor boasts an accuracy of ±1°C, enabling users to monitor system ambient temperature in real time.

Designed specifically for precision measurement applications, the SGM838 maintains measurement accuracy under temperature variations thanks to its low offset voltage and low gain drift characteristics. Within the broad current measurement range, its low offset voltage and low noise characteristics enable measurements spanning from ampere (A) to kiloampere (kA) levels while ensuring low-power operation. Furthermore, its nanaampere (nA) level bias current makes it suitable for high-resistance sensing resistors, guaranteeing high precision even within the microampere (μA) measurement range and meeting stringent user requirements for high-accuracy measurement.

The SGM838's ADC conversion time offers flexible selection within the 150µs to 4.12ms range, while its average sampling mode provides eight selectable levels from 1x to 1024x. This not only reduces noise but also accommodates diverse data acquisition requirements across different application scenarios. Additionally, the device incorporates a rapid alert function. For instance, with a 150μs conversion time, the alert response speed ranges from 24μs to 275μs depending on the magnitude of the over-threshold voltage. Upon detecting fault events—including bus voltage anomalies, current limiting, overpower, or overtemperature conditions—the device responds within an extremely short timeframe. This enables prompt fault handling, minimising equipment downtime losses.

The SGM838 utilises an environmentally conscious MSOP-10 green package and operates within a temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
