Diodes Incorporated (Nasdaq: DIOD) has introduced four asynchronous step-down converters that comply with automotive specifications *, suitable for 48V low-voltage rail point-of-load (PoL) applications. The AP68255Q/AP68355Q and AP6A255Q/AP6A355Q are equipped with 500mΩ power MOSFETs, enabling efficient step-down DC-DC conversion and continuous output current up to 3.5A. These four converters cover the complete range of vehicle batteries (5.5V to 80V/100V), including load dump situations. The four converters are suitable for a variety of applications, including 48V motor control, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), in-vehicle information services, infotainment systems, body control, instrument panels and lighting systems, etc.
These four brand-new step-down converters adopt constant on-time (COT) control to maintain a nearly constant switching frequency (300kHz). This technology can achieve rapid load/line Transient response, simplify loop stability, and reduce output voltage ripple, thereby reducing the demand for external components and making the converter easier to use. These four devices adopt a dedicated gate driver configuration, which can reduce the ringing effect of the switch node while maintaining the on and off times of the N-type MOSFET switch. This helps to reduce the high-frequency radiated electromagnetic interference (EMI) noise typically caused by MOSFET switches.
The converter is equipped with built-in overcurrent protection (OCP) function and frequency return mode, which can reduce the junction temperature under fault conditions while ensuring support for high load currents. The over-temperature protection (OTP) circuit will immediately cut off the output voltage of the controller when the temperature reaches 160°C. When the temperature drops below the safety threshold of 140°C, the converter will automatically restart. These protection functions can prevent the controller from being damaged or operating abnormally, greatly enhancing the system reliability.
The AP68255Q/AP68355Q and AP6A255Q/AP6A355Q asynchronous step-down converters are packaged in a heat-enhanced SO-8EP package and operate within a temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. In addition, standard versions suitable for industrial and commercial applications are also provided.
