According to Reuters, sources familiar with the matter have revealed that ARM, the world's leading chip architecture licensing company, has recently announced the hiring of Rami Sinno, Amazon's AI chip director, to assist in advancing its plans to develop its own complete chip.


Sinno previously led the development of Amazon's in-house AI chips ‘Trainium’ and ‘Inferentia,’ which are designed to help build and run large-scale AI applications.


ARM has been seeking to expand its business from a supplier of critical chip intellectual property to a company capable of independently designing complete chips.


According to Reuters, ARM disclosed its in-house chip development plans in sealed evidence submitted during a trial in December last year, and the company has also poached executives from competitors for this purpose.


In recent years, ARM has been strengthening its teams focused on building complete chips and systems. The company has hired a senior executive from Hewlett Packard Enterprise with experience in large-scale system design, as well as a chip architect from Intel.
