On 13 August, Xinyu Automobile reported that there is a shortage of 8GB small-capacity storage chips, which are used in autonomous driving chipsets. Due to a shortage of upstream storage chip raw materials, this chip shortage began to emerge in the fourth quarter of last year, and by July this year, small-capacity storage chips had entered a price increase phase. Currently, there are relatively few suppliers of small-capacity storage chips. Bosch holds a competitive advantage due to its access to low-cost supplies from Samsung, but other major autonomous driving companies are generally facing a shortage crisis for small-capacity storage chips.
According to data from Zoso Automotive Research, the global automotive storage chip market size is expected to grow from approximately 30.903 billion yuan in 2023 to over 122.174 billion yuan by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate of 22%. The value share of automotive storage chips in the automotive semiconductor sector is also projected to rise to 17.4%. This growth trend indicates that as intelligent vehicle technology advances, demand for storage chips will continue to increase.
