Recently, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (Vishay) announced the launch of two new IHDM automotive-grade through-hole flat wire inductors -IHDM-1107BBEV-2A and IHDM-1107BBeV-3A. These devices feature a 1107 package size. The soft saturation current can reach 422 A. Thanks to the iron powder alloy core technology adopted, the IHDM-1107BBEV-2A and IHDM-1107BBEV-3A in Vishay's inductor product line feature outstanding inductance value and saturation current stability, low power consumption and excellent heat dissipation performance within the harsh operating temperature range of -40°C to +180°C.
The flat wire wound DC resistance (DCR) of these two devices released recently is as low as 0.22m , which can minimize losses, improve rated current performance and thereby increase efficiency. Compared with the competing solutions based on ferrite, the rated current and saturation current of iDDM-1107bBeV-2A and iDDM-1107bBev-3a are increased by 30% respectively at temperatures above +125 C. Inductors have a soft saturation characteristic, so their inductance value decreases slowly as the current increases and is not affected by temperature.
The withstand voltage of these devices certified by AEC-Q200 is as high as 350 V. It is suitable for DC/DC converters, inverters, on-board chargers (OBC), domain control units (DCU) in high-current and high-temperature power applications, as well as filters for motor and switch noise suppression in internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), and all-electric (EV) vehicles. These inductors come in two types of core materials to choose from, and their performance can be optimized according to the application.
The pins of IHDM-1107BBEV-2A and IHDM-1107BBEV-3A have their insulating layers stripped off and are tin-plated, making them suitable for through-hole fixation. Vishay can customize different inductance values, DC resistance (DCR), rated current and rated voltage according to customer requirements. The installation method can also be customized according to requirements, including bare copper pins, surface mount and fisheye terminals. To reduce the risk of tin whiskers growing, the inductors are tin-plated by hot-dip galvanizing. The device complies with RoHS and Vishay's green standards and is halogen-free.
