Global renowned semiconductor manufacturer ROHM (headquartered in Kyoto, Japan) announced today that it has launched six high-side IPD*2 (intelligent high-side switches) "BV1HBxxx series" with different on-resistance values for body-related applications such as automotive lighting, car door locks, and power Windows that are gradually adopting Zone-ECU*1. It is highly suitable for protecting the system from problems such as excessive power input. All our series of products comply with the AEC-Q100 automotive standard and meet the strict reliability requirements for in-vehicle products.
With the continuous development of autonomous driving and electric vehicles (EVs), the electronic control of automobiles is becoming increasingly complex. Meanwhile, from the perspective of functional safety, the importance of electronic protection is increasingly prominent, and the application process of "Zone-ECU", which manages automobiles by region, is accelerating. Under this trend, the application of IPD for electronic protection and control of loads is also accelerating. Zone-ECU needs to centrally control a large number of loads, while traditional IPD has deficiencies in the driving capability of capacitive loads. The high-performance IPD released by ROHM this time not only meets the basic performance requirements such as low on-resistance and high energy tolerance, but also makes up for the shortcoming of capacitive driving capability, achieving performance improvement and fully meeting the demands of Zone-ECU. In the future, once new products are launched on the market, they will greatly promote the "automotive electronicization" process that does not require mechanical fuses.
The new product features high capacitive load driving capability *3 and can fully exert its performance at the connection points between Zone-ECU and output loads (including various ECUs). Meanwhile, with the latest process technology independently developed by ROHM, the new product has successfully achieved a balance between low on-resistance and high energy (failure) tolerance that was previously difficult to balance. As a result, the BV1HBxxx series is able to achieve a high-level balance in the three key elements of driving capability, on-resistance and energy tolerance, which is conducive to realizing a system design that is excellent in terms of safety, efficiency and reliability. Meanwhile, the new product is equipped with a high-precision (actual accuracy: ±5%) current detection function that reaches the industry's advanced level, which can effectively protect the wiring harness connected to the output load. Its compact HTSOP-J8 package, which also features excellent heat dissipation performance, has high versatility.
The new product has been put into mass production at a scale of 200,000 units per month since June 2025. In addition, the new product has already started to be sold through e-commerce platforms (sample prices are 600 yen each, excluding tax). In the future, ROHM will continue to be committed to developing highly reliable and high-performance products, contributing to safety assurance and energy conservation and consumption reduction in the automotive field.
