Device description
The ADS1220IPWR is a precise 24-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC). The multiple integrated features can reduce system costs and decrease the number of components in small sensor signal measurement applications. The ADS1220IPWR features two differential inputs or four single-ended inputs implemented through an input multiplexer (MUX), a low-noise programmable gain amplifier (PGA), two programmable excitation current sources, a voltage reference, an oscillator, a low-side switch, and a precision temperature sensor.
The ADS1220IPWR can perform conversion at a sampling data rate of up to 2000 times per second (SPS) and can remain stable within a single cycle. For industrial applications in noisy environments, when the sampling frequency is 20SPS, the digital filter can simultaneously provide 50Hz and 60Hz suppression. The internal PGA offers a gain of up to 128V/V. This PGA makes the ADS1220IPWR highly suitable for small sensor signal measurement applications, such as resistive temperature detectors (RTD), thermocouples, thermistors, and resistive bridge sensors. This device supports the measurement of pseudo-differential or fully differential signals when using PGA. In addition, the ADS1220IPWR can be configured to disable the internal PGA while still providing high input impedance and a gain of up to 4V/V, thus enabling single-ended measurement.
The power consumption can be as low as 120µA when operating in duty cycle mode after disabling PGA. The ADS1220IPWR is available in a thin and small form factor (TSSOP)-16 package, with a rated operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
Typical applications
The ADS1220IPWR is suitable for high-precision scenarios such as industrial temperature detection and pressure sensing, which can reduce system costs and simplify design. Specifically including:
