LanzaJet, Inc., a leading next-generation fuel technology company and sustainable fuel producer, recently announced a new agreement with Microsoft to choose Microsoft Azure as its preferred cloud platform. This agreement marks the expansion of LanzaJet's partnership with Microsoft and highlights the core role of innovation in scaling up the next generation of aviation fuel.
LanzaJet will leverage Azure to enhance its operational systems, financial platforms, and data-driven decision-making capabilities (including those related to factory performance and supply chain optimization), in order to support its global business growth.
For a start-up technology enterprise like LanzaJet, partners are of vital importance. Microsoft has been by our side since our establishment. Anne Sidio, the Chief Transformation Officer of LanzaJet, said. This agreement is built on a multi-level partnership with Microsoft, from the early investment in our company, to the renewable fuel purchase agreement, and now to the digital infrastructure cooperation. This precisely reflects the kind of collaborative relationship needed to accelerate innovation, expand operational scale, and build a secure and resilient global platform.
Microsoft has always been a cornerstone partner on LanzaJet's development path, providing both financial support and maintaining business synergy. The Microsoft Climate Innovation Fund was among the earliest institutions to invest in LanzaJet and provided one of the company's first low-interest loans. It is used to fund the construction of LanzaJet Freedom Pines Fuels, the world's first commercial ethanol-to-sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facility located in Soperton, Georgia. In 2024, Microsoft further deepened its commitment to cooperation through direct investment in LanzaJet, supporting the continuous deployment of its technology globally.
In addition to financial support, Microsoft has also signed a fuel purchase agreement with LanzaJet, which will utilize renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel certificates (SAFc) generated from future LanzaJet projects to advance its emission reduction targets and fulfill industry-leading sustainable development commitments, including achieving carbon negative emissions by 2030. With today's announcement, Microsoft has become a core technology partner of LanzaJet, providing internal system support for its global business expansion.
Microsoft's continuous support for LanzaJet confirms the crucial role of enterprise-level technology in climate innovation. Alistair Speirs, senior director of Microsoft's Azure Global Infrastructure, said. We are delighted to collaborate with leading enterprises in the sustainable fuel industry to jointly advance LanzaJet's long-term mission of decarbonizing the aviation sector.
As LanzaJet continues to expand its project portfolio in the United States, Europe, Asia and Latin America, the global platform built on Azure will enable cross-regional secure and scalable connectivity, as well as robust data management capabilities from raw material traceability to emission accounting.
Before the release of this announcement, LanzaJet had successively been recognized by authoritative institutions such as TIME100, S&P Global and Reuters, in recognition of its innovation, influence and leadership position in the global clean energy transition.
