Overview

The MAX5832GWX is a 14-bit, 9-channel current output digital-to-analog converter (DAC). Powered by a +3.0V low power supply, the device provides 14-bit performance without any adjustments.


The output range of the device is optimized for high-power tunable laser source bias. Each of the nine channels provides a current source. Channels 1 and 2 provide 10mA of current. The internal multiplexer switches the output of each channel to one of four external nodes. Channel 3 provides a choice of 2mA or 20mA currents. Channel 4 provides 90mA of current. Channel 5 provides 180mA of current. Channel 6 provides an optional current of -60mA or +300mA. Channel 7 provides 90mA of current. Channels 8 and 9 offer optional currents of 15mA or 35mA. Paralleling the DAC outputs increases current or improves resolution. The device has a built-in reference voltage source.


The device is driven by an I2C-compatible interface with clock rates up to 400kHz. The DAC code is reset to zero via a high-level active asynchronous CLR input independent of the serial interface. The device provides a separate power input to drive the interface logic.
