With the increasingly powerful performance of graphics processing units (Gpus), the requirements for board-level power supplies are also getting higher and higher. The Intermediate bus converter (IBC) can convert a 48V input voltage to a lower bus voltage, which is increasingly important for the energy efficiency, power density and heat dissipation performance of AI data centers. Infineon Technologies announced that its OptiMOS™ 6 80V power MOSFET with a compact 5x6 mm² double-sided heat dissipation (DSC) package has been integrated into the IBC level of the AI server platform of a leading processor manufacturer.


Application tests show that its efficiency is approximately 0.4% higher than that of the previously used solution, equivalent to saving approximately 4.3W per kW of load. If it can be extended to the system level, such as server racks or the entire data center, it will bring significant energy-saving effects. For example, promoting this solution in a hyperscale data center with 2,000 racks can save more than 1.2 MWh of energy per hour, which is equivalent to the energy required to charge 25 small electric vehicles. This solution can save costs and reduce carbon footprints for data center operators, and it has significant benefits.
