Recently, Shanghai-Novosense Electronics (referred to as "Novosense") released a new dual-channel half-bridge gate driver chip NSD3602-Q1 series, which provides 2-way half-bridge drives and can drive 1-way DC brushed motor or 1-2-way solenoid valves. The NSD3602-Q1 is suitable for multi-motor or multi-load scenarios in body applications, such as window lifts, electric seats, door locks, electric tailgates and proportional valves, etc. The newly launched NSD3602-Q1 complements Novosense's existing NSD360x-Q1 series, which also includes 4-channel and 8-channel half-bridge drive products.

Configurable Timed Charge and Discharge Current Drive (CCPD): Optimizing EMC Performance

Due to the particularity of the location of actuators in car body applications, such as the electric tailgate and sunroof being very close to the car body antenna, this puts forward higher EMC requirements for the corresponding motor drive: the driver has low radiation and conducted interference (RE/CE) even when working in PWM.


To address these challenges, the NSD3602-Q1 provides a configurable timing charge/discharge current driver (CCPD: Configurable Charge/Discharge Current Profile Driver). NSD3602-Q1 can simultaneously realize two half-bridge independent timing current PWM drives according to the parameters and application requirements of external load (MOSFET), and the current-mode drive no longer requires external secondary resistors and GS/GD capacitors.


As shown in the figure below, the CCPD module of NSD3602-Q1 divides the MOS on/off process into three stages: precharge/pre-discharge stage, charge/discharge stage, and tail discharge stage (there are only two stages of on). The duration and drive current of all stages are independently configurable.

Wide mode op amp: accurate current detection, simplified BOM


The NSD3602-Q1 integrates a high-performance differential amplifier (CSA) to measure the current by measuring the differential voltage on the external sampling resistor. The CSA module supports programmable gain and bias, wide common mode, bidirectional input, blanking and sample & hold functions. Accurate and flexible current sampling can be realized through the CSA module, saving customer BOM.


Comprehensive diagnostic protection functions to improve system reliability


NSD3602-Q1 integrates comprehensive diagnostic protection functions, such as real-time power supply and charge pump voltage monitoring, to realize full-featured undervoltage and overvoltage diagnostic protection (DVDD UV, PVDD OV, PVDD UV and VCP UV), drive module monitoring to realize VGS and VDS Diagnostic protection, open circuit and short circuit diagnosis of loads in running and off states (built-in pull-down current sources to realize load detection in off state), overheating alarm and overheating protection, CSA overcurrent diagnosis, watchdog, sleep mode and Brake protection function in working mode, etc. All diagnostic protection functions support SPI configuration or information reading, and also support independent PIN pins to realize IO status output.


The integrated brake protection function of NSD3602-Q1 can effectively suppress the sudden voltage rise caused by external mechanical forces (such as artificial pulling and dragging), thereby preventing the MOS tube from being damaged by overvoltage. This function is particularly critical in applications such as side sliding doors, electric pedals, and tailgate struts, which can reduce the risk of system failure caused by misoperation or sudden impact and improve overall reliability.
