Vicor's newly launched DCM3717 and DCM3735 DC-DC power modules support the growth trend of the 48V-centered power supply network (PDN). Compared with the 12V power supply network, the 48V PDN offers higher power system efficiency and power density, and is lighter in weight. These DCM products are non-isolated regulated DC-DC converters with an operating input voltage range of 40-60V, generating adjustable regulated outputs ranging from 10V to 12.5V. The DCM3717 series offers two power options: 750W and 1kW, while the DCM3735 is a 2kW device. These two brand-new DCM products can be connected in parallel to rapidly expand the power level of the system.
The Vicor DCM3717 and DCM3735 regulated 48V to 12V converters simplify the migration to the 48V architecture.
These brand-new DCM products offer an industry-leading power density of up to 5kW/in ³, enabling power system designers to deploy high-performance 48V power supply networks for traditional 12V loads, thereby achieving significant advantages in size, weight and efficiency. The 5.2mm thin SM ChiP surface mount package has excellent thermal adaptability and simplifies the design of the thermal management system.
DCM3717S60E13G5TN1 (750W) and DCM3717S60D13K0TN1 (1000W) are now available for supply (dimensions: 36.7x 17.3x 5.2mm), and DCM3735S60D13L0TN1 (2000W/dimensions: 36.7 x 35.4 x 5.2mm will be available on the market later this year.
The conversion from high voltage to 12V is easily achieved through a 48V hub
The power supply network (PDN) is undergoing a decisive transformation from a 12V architecture to a 48V architecture to achieve higher efficiency. The advantages of the 48V power supply architecture have been verified in high-performance computing, automobiles, and many other applications. However, for traditional systems that have been optimized around the 12V architecture for decades, the shift to the 48V architecture brings many design challenges to power supply systems. Industrial applications are transitioning to 48V PDN
