22nd April 2025 - OmniVision, a globally ranked developer of semiconductor solutions for advanced digital imaging, analogue, and display technologies, today announced the new OX01N1B image sensor for in-vehicle driver monitoring systems (DMS). The latest addition to Howell Group's industry-leading Nyxel® near infrared (NIR) automotive sensor technology family, the OX01N1B is a 1.5 megapixel RGB-IR or monochrome back-illuminated global shutter sensor with a 2.2 micron pixel size in a 1/4.51 inch optical format. Howell Group will be demonstrating the OX01N1B sensor at Auto Shanghai 2025, from 23 April to 2 May, together with ecosystem partners.


Key features of the OX01N1B include:

Industry-leading near-infrared quantum efficiency (up to 36%) for excellent performance in low-light environments; high modulation transfer function (MTF) for better image quality and resolution; low power consumption; and an optical format that is suitable for compact camera module designs.The OX01N1B incorporates OmniPixel® 4-GS technology, which enables simultaneous image detection of all pixels and ensures distortion-free performance under fast motion.

The OX01N1B integrates ASIL-B and cyber security features in compliance with the latest industry standards. It features Howell Group's a-CSP™ packaging technology, which allows for higher performance image sensors in a more compact camera space. Additionally, the OX01N1B is available as a barebones option for designers wishing to assemble a barebones imager into a camera module.


The OX01N1B is sampling now and will enter volume production in the third quarter of 2026.
