STMicroelectronics (ST) has recently launched a series of serial EEPROM chips with built-in 128-bit unique read-only ID code (UID) to meet the market's demands for product identification, traceability and maintenance.
In addition to the regular EEPROM user storage space used for storing parameters and data, the read-only UID code is written to the memory on the STMicroelectronics factory line and is permanently locked. OEM manufacturers can quickly and easily use UID for basic product identification and clone detection, replacing entry-level security components. UID also supports version management and upgrade control.
The storage capacity of the new series products ranges from 32-Kbit to 2-Mbit. From procurement and manufacturing to on-site deployment, repair and disposal, throughout the entire life cycle of the terminal product, the identification code UID written to the chip before leaving the factory remains unchanged, providing customers with continuous and seamless product traceability functions to facilitate equipment reliability analysis and simplify the reuse and maintenance process of used equipment.
The M24XXX.U was initially launched in two capacities, 64-Kbit and 128-Kbit, and was manufactured using STMicroelectronics' proprietary CMOS EEPROM technology. This process technology ensures that the memory has very high reliability and an industry-leading 4 million write operations, as well as a data retention period of 200 years, while having extremely low power consumption.
To simplify the system integration process, these memories are packaged in the SO8N industry standard and use wide-voltage power supplies ranging from 1.7V to 5.5V. The entire series supports I²C bus modes at 100 kHz (standard mode), 400kHz (fast mode), and 1MHz (fast + mode). It also supports random and sequential read modes, as well as write protection mode that protects the entire memory array. In addition, the new product also features enhanced ESD/ latch protection and a 4 kV mannequin ESD protection mechanism.
