As automotive structures transition to hybrid and electric models, traditional battery systems are increasingly being supplemented or replaced by 48-V power supplies. With 12 V and 24 V grid systems reaching their limits, this shift is expected to become the new standard for electric vehicles in the future. The 48 V system provides advanced functionality and increases efficiency by reducing current and simplifying harness complexity. Moreover, the traditional relays and fuses in the primary and secondary distribution systems are no longer able to meet the needs of electrification and need to be replaced. To drive this electrification, Infineon Technologies, a global semiconductor leader in Power systems and the Internet of Things, is introducing the Power PROFET™ + 24/48V switch family, which has been developed specifically to meet the requirements of modern automotive power systems.
The Power PROFET™ + 24/48V switch family is available in a compact TO leadless package and includes two high-side switch models, the BTH50030-1LUA (RDS(ON) at 3.0mΩ) and the BTH50015-1LUA (RDS(ON) at 1.5mΩ). Significantly reduce power losses in high-current applications. The range is ideally suited to meet the stringent requirements of today's automotive electrical systems, commercial and hybrid vehicles, as well as the next generation of electric vehicles, creating a safer, greener and more comfortable driving experience.
The main benefits of the Power PROFET™ + 24/48V switch family are high efficiency and space savings, with a high degree of integration and resettable and diagnostic capabilities. Designed for better performance in harsh environments, the series has a on-resistance of only 1.5 mΩ, ideal for high-current applications, and is robust and durable to withstand high-temperature cabin and engine compartment environments. It can be switched on and off for more than 1 million times, far exceeding the average 200,000 times of traditional relays, and has extremely high reliability.
Built-in protection and diagnostic functions, such as short circuit, overcurrent and overheat protection, ensure equipment safety. Diagnostic signals enable advanced fault detection and improve vehicle reliability by preventing failure modes in the power supply network. The switch is available in an 8-pin TO leadless package, which takes up 23% less space than a D2PAK package with similar thermal performance. The calibrated load current detection accuracy IS ±5% and can be easily determined by reading the analog voltage on the IS pin. In addition, the switches meet the PRO-SIL™ ISO 26262 switching standard and come with safety application instructions to help users evaluate hardware components against the ISO 26262 standard.
To facilitate seamless integration, the Infineon Developer Center offers an online simulation tool for the Power PROFET™ + 24/48V family, the Infineon Automotive Power Explorer. The tool helps calculate the inherent characteristics of the fuse and displays the induced current range for a specific load current in a visual chart, ensuring accurate and efficient use by the user.

The Power PROFET™ + 24/48V switch BTH50030-1LUA and BTH50015-1LUA are now in production. For easy integration and evaluation, Infineon also provides an Arduino shielding BOARD (Board BTH50015-1LUA). The 6mΩ model BTH50060-1LUA will soon be added to the series. Samples are available on request.
