Samsung considers lowering memory chip prices in the second half of the year
Although the overall consumer demand in the first half of this year has weakened rapidly, the previous strong bargaining of DRAM manufacturers did not show any signs of lowering prices for sales, which made the inventory pressure
Mingjiada News, July 6, according to Digitimes, Samsung is considering lowering the price of memory chips in the second half of 2022, aiming to further expand its market share. If Samsung decides to cut prices, other memory chip companies will follow suit, possibly triggering a price war in the second half of this year.
Affected by global inflation and the macroeconomic downturn, the sales figures for SSDs and other storage devices during the 618 shopping festival were not satisfactory. This puts pressure on downstream suppliers to accelerate inventory adjustments. As a result, chip suppliers have begun to loosen their stance on price.
At the same time, the spot prices of NAND Flash and DRAM dropped significantly. According to the survey report of TrendForce, despite the rapid weakening of overall consumer demand in the first half of this year, the previous strong bargaining of DRAM manufacturers did not show any signs of lowering prices, making inventory pressure gradually shifted from buyers to sellers. With the demand outlook in the second half of the peak season unclear, some DRAM suppliers have begun to have clear intentions to cut prices. It is expected that the overall DRAM price will drop by 10% in the third quarter of 2022.
