Overview:

The MAX98050 audio codec is a high-performance, low-power device with integrated low-latency digital filters for wireless earpieces, headsets and headphones. The MAX98050 features a mono playback channel with a 5-band dual quad equalizer and an efficient, fully differential hybrid Class AB/D headphone amplifier. Playback headphone amplifiers are optimized to achieve minimum output noise and static power consumption while maximizing output power efficiency.

The device includes three microphone input channels to support voice, ambient, and noise-resistant recording purposes. Each channel can individually input recordings via an external analog or digital microphone, and then send audio data to the recording channel (to the digital audio interface) and an internal low-latency digital filter channel. A fourth recording channel with a digital audio interface allows the host to monitor the digital data output of the playback channel.

Two low-latency digital filter channels are available to support a variety of use cases. These include noise reduction applications (feedforward, feedback, and hybrid filter profiles), voice and environmental enhancement and transparency applications, and side-tone applications. Each channel features a 12-band digital dual-quad filter, a DRC or limiter stage, a digital volume control block, and an ultrasonic filter. In addition, a third internal digital filter channel is provided in the playback channel, which is structured for playback compensation and/or general feedback compensation filters. The channel includes a 10-band dual-quad filter and a digital volume control module. To support dynamic or adaptive filters and use case transitions, dual quad filters and volume controls provide stacked profiles that can be updated/switched without affecting audio playback.

The MAX98050 audio codec comes in a small 6.7mm2 WLP32 package with a height as low as 0.5mm, making it ideal for small form factor applications.
