June 13 news, STMicroelectronics (STMicroelectronics, ST) announced the launch of a new platform to accelerate the introduction of digital car keys, allowing consumers to keyless access to vehicles through mobile devices.


In addition to enhancing security, digital car keys can provide owners with greater convenience, including customizable access rights, while continuing to protect the vehicle. Car sharing, fleet management, and vehicle leasing can also benefit from this, such as easier key issuance, usage control, and access to valet parking and services.

Based on the latest ST automotive-grade secure element hardware, the global solution was developed by STMicroelectronics and Giesecke+Devrient (G+D) and supports the latest Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC) digital key version 3.0 standards to ensure the highest security and protection.


ST's STSAFE-VJ100-CCC vehicle SoC solution is based on the CC EAL6+ certified vehicle-grade 2 ST33K-A security IC with integrated Java Card applications. The SoC stores credentials and other sensitive information and performs the cryptographic operations required to implement CCC digital key version 3 use cases, such as owner pairing, car key sharing, car key termination/deletion. This provides a solid foundation for customers to build digital car key solutions.
